Cacti are storytellers, echoing the of the migration of people and animals, geologic transformations, and consciousness alterations!
While many credit the re-emergence of entheogens in the modern west to the Harvard Psychedelic club, Albert Hoffman, and the exploitation of Maria Sabina, 1950s-60s literature on encounters with mescaline tacitly laid the groundwork for pre-“hippie” counter culture. Simultaneously, the ripples from the 1883 religious crimes code in the United States maintained a ban on Native dancing and ceremonies, including the Sun Dance, Ghost Dance, potlatches, and medicine practices- peyote as sacrament included.
