SPRING TOUR 25' • Tea Time in Ancient America: In Search of the Yaupon Holly • Nevada City, CA

$15.00 - $35.00

Join us LIVE + DIRECT in Nevada City, CA for an evening of ethnobotany and american tea history!! • Graciously hosted by 108 Treasures crystal + tea shop • Thursday June 19th, 7-9pm

Across the eastern United States rests a pre-history of unsuspecting proportions. Mounds and earthworks conventionally dated up to 5,000+ years old reflect an untold story of mathematical and astronomical prowess not unlike Newgrange, Teotihuacan, Gobekli Tepi, and the Giza pyramids. Yet these monumental world heritage sites are scarcely visited, and have over the past hundred or so years, been effectively mowed over, dug up, or split down the middle with highways and byways.

While curious researchers focus on the how and the who, often romanticizing aliens and giants, I travelled first-hand to several of these remaining mound sites with libations in hand, notepad in tow, and a question in heart: What plants are here? Where are they endemic to? How did they spread? And how does this reflect the routes of cultural exchange, language, and ideas- botanical medicine traditions included!

Join in for a very special story hour, reflecting especially on the legends, legacy, and dare I say conspiracies around Yaupon holly!! Of course, everything is connected- included in these tales will be special mentions on Cacao, Sassafras, American Lotus, Tobacco, and impact of these plants on modern day botanical commerce, drug culture, and medicine ways.

Register at your honest ability below. FINE TEA SERVICE INCLUDED :)
